A wholly aromatic polyester polymerized with 4,4’-diphenyloxide dicarboxylic acid (DODA), 4-acetoxybenzoic acid (ABA), hydroquinone diactate (HQA), 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic (NDA) and terephthalic acid (TA) was melt spun into thermotropic liquid-crystalline polymer (TLCP) fibers at the temperature of about 305℃, following heat treatment in vacuum environment at about 280℃ for 24h. The thermal properties the TLCP fibers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetrty (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphology of the fibers was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the mechanical properties were determined by the fiber tensile tester. It was found that the polymer could be spun into very thin fiber by special designed quenching device and the fiber tensile strength and Young’s modulus could be greatly improved by heat treatment. |
