Dec.14th, 2009, Shanghai, China—Thanksgiving Evening of Paint & Coatings Industry 50th Birthday Paralleling to Selection Awarding Evening of Excellent 50 Years of China Coatings Industry was held in Shanghai on Dec. 14th, 2009. More than 280 leading persons from 218 coatings manufacturers, raw material suppliers, instrument suppliers, research institutes, universities and government apartments attended the evening and witnessed the birth of awards, including ‘10 events’, ‘10 Technology Founding Father’, ‘10 Famous Expert’, ‘10 Outstanding Experts’, ‘10 Well-known Experts’, ‘10 Outstanding International Companies’, ‘10 Excellent International Companies’, ‘10 Outstanding National Companies’, and ‘10 Excellent National Companies’.
Paint & Coatings Industry was initiated in 1959 by CNOOC Changzhou Paint & Coatings Industry Research Institute and Society of Coatings & Finishing of CIESC. Blended by technicality, knowledgeability, practicability and informativity, PCI has been awarded Key Magazine of CSCD, RCCSE, China Technology and Chinese Academic Journals. PCI is one of the academic journals of longest history and largest influence, whose circulation nearly reaches 10 000 and readers spreads over all areas of China and even Europe, America, Japan and Southeast Asia. Since exact half a century, taking ‘the window of reflecting China coatings industry, the bridge of entering China coatings industry’ as the mission, PCI has combined research with practice according to its 306 issues including more than 5000 articles (more than 20 million words). It pays attention to both advancement and popularization, and also both domestic and foreign technologies, making great contribution to development of China coatings industry.
The sponsor of PCI—CNOOC Changzhou Paint & Coatings Industry Research Institute, the largest research and service institution in China coatings industry, possesses Research Center of National Coatings Engineering, National Paint & Coatings Productivity Promotion Center, National Paint & Coatings Industry Information Center, National Quality Supervision Testing Center for Paint, National Technical Committee of Paint & Pigments for Standardization, Society of Coatings & Finishing of CIESC, National Paint & Coatings Productivity Promotion Center Titanium Branch, National Inorganic Pigment Information Base, etc. The research institute has taken more than 40 national critical projects and gained 530 technology achievements, among which 18 projects were awarded national awards, 45 projects were awarded provincial or ministry level awards, and 70 projects were awarded other level awards. In addition, the research institute also has popularized its advanced achievements to 27 provinces and municipalities, also making great attribution to technology advancement of China paint & pigments industry.
‘Selection of Excellent 50 Years of China Coatings Industry’ is founded for memorizing initiation 50 years of PCI, and also for illustrious development of China coatings industry during half a century. The awards were conferred to those events, persons and companies that were land marks for promoting technology innovation and market advancement of China coatings industry. China coatings industry started in the beginning of 20th century, went into right orbit in 1950s, and entered scale development in 1990s. Along with the rapid economic rise, China has become one of the areas with fastest development worldwide, with the total coatings output of 7.338 million tons in 2009 (from Jan. to Oct.). It is estimated that the output of China will exceed America to become the biggest producer of coatings globally. In the wake of environmental concern of government, China coatings industry has changed to high technology contents and environmental protection products. During this period, the orientation of PCI was approved by the whole industry, so this selection received passionate response. In line with the principle of ‘Justice, Open, Fair’, the selection started from the beginning of 2009 and got the selection result in Nov., 2009.
