The prepainted coil surface can have a wide range of colours, and coated coil can be slit for narrow widths, cut to required lengths, bent, profiled or deep drawn, without damaging the organic coating. So the prepainted coil has numerous applications in various industries, such as in the construction industry, the automotive and transport industries, etc. As rising energy costs, pronounced urban heat-island effect and global warming increase the need for intelligent solar heat management solutions like cool paints, especially in coil coatings. The current research progress of coil coatings was introduced. The mechanism of thermal insulation and the development of thermal insulation coil coatings were discussed.
