Organization of different iridophores into core@shell structure constitutes an evolutionary novelty for panther chameleons that allows their skins to display diverse color change. Inspired by this natural color-changing design, we present one responsive core@shell structured multi-luminogen supramolecular hydrogel system, which can generate programmable multi-color fluorescent change. Specifically, red Eu3+-amidopicolinate (R) luminogen was incorporated into the core hydrogel, while blue naphthalimide (B) and green perylene-tetracarboxylic-acid (G) luminogens were grown into two supramolecular shell hydrogels, respectively, which is the key difference between the reported multicolor materials. For this bioinspired core@shell structured supramolecular material, intensities of G/B luminogens could be controlled independently, which enables its emission color to be facilely programmed from red to blue or green, nearly covering the full visible spectrum. Owing to the differential excitation energies between R and B/G luminogens, desirable excitation wavelength dependent fluorescence was also achieved. Colorful materials with patterned core@shell structure was further demonstrated for anticounterfeiting, opening up the possibility of utilizing bioinspired core@shell structure to develop efficient multi-color fluorescent system with versatile uses.
