Dr David Fengwei Xie earned a BE in Biological Engineering in 2004 and a PhD in Polysaccharide Engineering in 2009 from the South China University of Technology (SCUT), China. Since 2008, he has built a distinguished research career at institutions including the University of Guelph (Canada), the University of Queensland (Australia), the University of Warwick (UK), Newcastle University (UK), and the University of Bath, advancing from postdoctoral researcher to full professor. Currently, he serves as a professor at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Dr Xie has been awarded prestigious fellowships such as the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship and the EPSRC Fellowship. Leading a dynamic research group, he focuses on pioneering studies in polymer and food science and engineering, addressing sustainability and health challenges. His work centers on biopolymers—polysaccharides and proteins—to develop biodegradable, biocompatible, and "green" materials with competitive performance, functionality, and end-of-life considerations. Additionally, he explores the physicochemical and functional properties of biopolymers as key food components, aiming to innovate processes for creating novel materials and foods. A core aspect of his research involves understanding structure-property relationships in both materials and foods. Dr Xie’s contributions are evidenced by over 200 peer-reviewed publications, and he currently serves as an editor for *Carbohydrate Polymers*.
