PHBVandchitosanaretwonaturalmaterialsofbiocompatibilityandrenewability.However,theycannotbepreparedbyelectrospinningsimultaneously,becausetheyhavenoco-solvent.Inthiswork,chitosan/H2O/aceticacidsolution(W)wasdispersedinPHBV/CHCl3(O)withtheassistanceofsurfactantspan80toformW/Oemulsions.Theemulsionswerethenelectrospunintofibers.Themorphologiesoftheultrafinefiberswereobservedbyscanningelectronmicroscopeandfluorescencemicroscope.Thephaseinversionwasmeasuredbyconductivitymeter.TheresultshowedthattheemulsionswithW:Oratiolessthan4:6hadgoodspinnability.Whiletheemulsioncouldnotbeelectrospunintofibersiftheratiowashigherthan5:5,becausephaseinversionoccurredatthatratio,andthechitosansolutionhadnospinnability.ThefibersfromW/OemulsionsshowedlargerdiametersthanthatfromPHBV/CHCl3.Chitosandispersedattheaxispartofthecompositefibers.Thedispersedphasewasstretchedfromspheretostripintheelectrospinningprocess.
