Thenanogelswithsemi-interpenetratingpolymernetwork(semi-IPN)structurebasedoncross-linkedpoly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM)andlinearpoly(acrylicacid)(PAA)werefabricatedbyone-stepprecipitationpolymerizationtechnique.ThechemicalcompositionofthenanogelsweredeterminedbyFouriertransformationinfraredspectroscopyandelementalanalysis.ItwasfoundthatthePAAcontentinsidethenanogelsdecreasedasthepHvalueofreactionmediaincreased.Thesemi-IPNstructureofthenanogelswasconfirmedbytransmissionelectronmicroscopyusinguranylacetatestainingmethod.ThepHdependenthydrodynamicdiametersobtainedbydynamiclightscatteringrevealedthatthesenanogelscanreversiblyshrinkandswellinthepHrangefrom4.0to6.0.Thesemi-IPNnanogelssynthesizedatpH3.0couldundergoabout125timesvolumechangeinthepHrange.
