Thesensitizerisacrucialelementindye-sensitizedsolarcells(DSSCs).exertingsignificantinfluenceonthepowerconversionefficiencyaswellasthestabilityofthecells.Generally,organicdyesusedforefficientsolarcellsarerequiredtopossesshighchargecarriermobilityandbroadandintensespectralabsorptioninthevisiblelightregions.Diketopyrrolopyrrole(DPP),quinacridone(QAD),andisoindigo(IID)arewell-knownorganicpigmentswithexceptionallight,weatherandheatstabilityandare,therefore,usedinindustrialapplicationsashighperformancepigmentsinpaints,plastics,andinks.Inthiswork,threeseriesmetal-freedyes(Schemel)withaDPP,QAD,andIIDcoreweredesignedandsynthesizedforDSSCs.Theirabsorptionproperties,electrochemicalandphotosensitizationpropertieswereinvestigatedsystematically.ThepreliminaryresultsshowthattheDSSCsbasedonthedyeQADshowedthebetterphotovoltaicperformance:ashort-circuitphotocurrentdensity(J,,,)of13.25mA/cm2.anopen-circuitphotovoltage(Vo.)of804mV,andafillfactor(FF)of0.73.correspondingtoanoverallconversionefficiencyof7.7%understandardglobalAM1.5solarconditions.
