Inthisstudy,theeffectsofanodizingtemperatureonthemicrostructure,compositionandsurfaceprofileofTi6A14Vweresystematicallyinvestigated.Singlelapshearstrengthsoftheanodizedalloybondedwithepoxyweremeasuredandthefracturemechanismswereanalyzed.WithincreasinganodizingtemperaturefromooCt0400C,thethicknessoftheoxidelayerdecreasedfrom一1500nmto～200nm,indicatingaccelerateddissolutionprocessofoxidecausedbyincreasedionicmobilityathightemperature.Afteranodizationat400C,ahoneycomb-likeoxidelayerwithporediameterof100-200nmwasuniformlydevelopedonTi6A14Wssurface.Theoxidelayersshowedamorphousstructurewithsurfaceroughnessrangingfrom657.0nmto817.2nm.TheapparentshearstrengthsofthespecimensanodizedatooC,250Cand400Cwereimprovedby217.7%,225.0%,and317.2%,respectively,incomparisonwiththatofspecimenwithoutanodization.FromSEMfractomicrographicanalysis,pristinespecimenshowedadhesivefailurebetweenepoxy-alloyinterfaces;specimenanodizedat400Ccohesivefailureofepoxywasdominant;whereasmixedfracturemodes,i.e.90xidelayerfailure,epoxy-alloyinterfaceadhesivefailure,andepoxycohesivefailure,wereobservedforspecimensanodizedato℃and25℃.Thenano-engineeredhoneycomb-likestructurecontributedtotheimprovedshearstrengthduetotheinterlockbetweenanodizedTialloyandepoxyadhesive,whichprovidespracticalsolutiontotuneTi-basedmetal-compositeinterfacepropertyforourfollowingwork.
