Inthelastfewdecadesduetogrowingenwronmentalfriendlyconsciousness9renewableresourcebasedandbiodegradablepolymersgainmoreandmoreattention.Oneofthemostpromisingpolymersofthebiopolymerfamilyisthestarchbasedpoly(lacticacid)(PLA)duetoitsexcellentmechanicalproperties,however,itstillhasnotenteredintoengineeringapplications.Toachievesuccessfulusageforexampleinautomotiveindustry,abiocompositehastobemadebyreinforcingPLAwithnaturalfibers.ThecellulosefibershavethehighestavailabilityfeatureonEarth,thusitismostlikelytobeusedinPLAbasedbiocompositesasareinforcingmaterial.Intheliteraturethereisconfusionaccordingtotheoptimaldryingconditionsofthesetwophases.InourstudytheoptimaldryingconditionsofthecellulosefibersandthePLAwereanalyzedpriortobiocompositepreparation.Themechanicalpropertiesoftheinjectionmoldedspecimenswereinvestigatedbyusingtensile,bending,andCharpytests.
