Flyashparticlewasusedasanadditivecomponentinthepolymercompositesduetoitslowdensity,lowcostandthebenefitofreducingthepressureontheenvironment[l].Someresearchersstatedthattheadditionofflyashimprovedmodulusofcomposites[2],rupturepropertyofcompositesC3]anddampingcapacityofepoxyresin[4].Inthisstudy,theflexuralandknifepenetrationpropertiesofcompositeenhancedbyfabricandflyashwereinvestigated.Flyashnanoparticles(FANs)(averagesize:396nm)andglassfabrics(3Dmultilayerglassfabric(MG)and3Dorthogonalglassfabric(OG)withthicknessof2.20mmand2.25mm)wereusedasthereinforcements;epoxyresinwasusedasthematrix.Theratioofreinforcementtomatrixwas6:4.FANswere10wt%.ThecompositeswithandwithoutFANswerepreparedandevaluated.Sampleswerecuredat1200Cfor30min.A3-pointbendingtestwasperformed.AtestometrictesterM350-IOCTwasusedforknifepenetrationtestwithasinglesharppointedknifeatavelocityofIm/min.ThecompositesreinforcedbyMGexhibitedhigherstrength,highermodulus,andlowerstrainin3-pointbendingtest,anddemonstratedhigherpeakload,higherdeformationandhigherenergyadsorptioninpenetrationtest.ForMGreinforcedcompositewithFANs,theflexuralstrength,flexuralstrain,flexuralmodulusandenergyatbreakwereimproved15.39%,16.29%,6.25%and96.44%respectively.ForOGreinforcedcompositeafteradditionofFANs,thecorrespondingvalueswereincreased8.06%,0.34%,16.28%and73.75%.MGhadmoreremarkableeffectthanOGonimprovingthemechanicalpropertiesofcomposites.TheapplicationofFANsimprovedtheperformanceofvcomposite.AcknowledgmentsThisstudywasfinanciallysupportedundertheSGSprojectbyTechnicalUniversityofLiberec.
