Poly(vinylidenefluoride)(PVDF)cancrystallizeintoatleastfourpolymorphs(a,(3,y,and8),itspolar(3and‘yphaseshavepyroelectricity,piezoelectricity,andferroelectricity,whichgiverisetomanypotentialapplicationscl].ManipulatingpolymorphismofPVDFbymediatingthepolymer-GOinteractionsinPVDF/GOnanocompositeisimportantfortheapplicationofitspromisingpropertiesaswellasunderstandingofdifferentstrengthinteractionsonthecrystallizationprocessofPVDF.Inthiswork,weusedwide-angleX-raydiffraction(WAXD)andFourierTransformationInfraredSpectroscopy(FTIR)toinvestigatethecrystallinestructureofsolutionandmeltcrystallizationPVDFanditisshownthatGOplateletsinduceformationof‘yphasewhencrystallizingfromsolution,butonlyaphaseformsfrommeltcrystallization.ThecrystallizationkineticsofaphaseispromotedduetoheterogeneousnucleationabilityofGO,whichprobablyoriginsfromaweak7c一dipoleinteractionbetweenGOandPVDF.Interestingly,afterintroductionofastrongion-dipoleinteractionsbetweenGOandPVDFbyadditionofanionicsurfactant(cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide,CTAB),asignificantamountof‘ycrystalsareobtainedduringisothermalmeltcrystallization.Time-resolvedFourierTransformationInfraredSpectroscopyresultsfurtherprovideadetailevolutionof‘yphaseformation,andtherearedistincttwostagesduringthemeltcrystallizationinthePVDF/GOcompositesinthepresenceofCTAB,i.e.,asimultaneousgrowthof‘yandaphasesinthefirststageandasolidato‘ytransitioninthesecondstage.Foreachstage,generalized2Dcorrelationanalysisisusedtorevealthespecificsequenceoccurringofalphaandgammaconformation,i.e.,alphaconformationchangespriortogammaconformationinthefirststageanditisreversedinthesecondstage.Itisclearlydemonstratedthat,bymediatingthePVDF-GOinteractionsthroughtheintroductionofasurfactants,controloverthestructuredevelopmentcanbeachieved.
