Therehasbeenagreatdealofinterestindevelopingnewmaterialsforthefabricationoflightemittingdiodes(OLEDs).Wehavepreparedarangeofintenselymaterials,whichhavefoundapplicationinbothmonochromaticandwhiteOLEDs.Ourapproachhasinvolvedasystematicstudyofarangeofdifferentmaterials.Wehaveusedasimilarapproachtodevelopmaterialsfororganicphotovoltaicdevices(OPVs).Iwilldiscussthedevelopmentofnewmaterialsasdonors,acceptorsandbufferlayersinOPVs.IwilldiscusstheuseofmetalcomplexesandorganicmaterialsasdonorandacceptormaterialsinorganicsolarcellsandM(-dikenotate)3complexesasbufferlayersinOPVs.WehaveinvestigatedawiderangeofnewandestablishedmaterialstoinvestigatetheconnectionbetweentheOPVopencircuitvoltage(Voc)andtheenergydifferencebetweenthedonorHOMOandacceptorLUMOenergies(EDA).WithincloselyrelatedfamiliesofmaterialsthereisaclearcorrelationbetweenVocandEDA,however,wehavefoundmarkeddifferencesbetweentheVocvaluesformaterialssystemswithverysimilarEDAvalues.IwillpresentamodelthatwehavedevelopedthataccuratelycouplesVocandEDAvalueswithaD/Acouplingterm.ThisapproachgivesusanewpathtodevelophighVocmaterials
