Thermotropicliquidcrystallinepolymers(TLCPs)withthequalitiesofhighstrength,stiffnessandchemicalresistance,gooddimensionalstabilityandlowlinerthermalexpansioncoefficientmakethemattractivehighperformanceengineeringmaterials.Inthispaper,thethermalpropertiesofanovelthermotropicliquidcrystallinepolymerfiberwerestudied.TLCPfiberspossessedgoodthermalstabilityandthedecompositiontemperatureswereabove450°C.HeattreatmentprocessincreasedthethermalpropertiesofTLCPfibers.Also,heattreatmentincreasedboththedegreeofcrystallinityandthemeltingtemperatureofTLCPfibers.TheopticaltexturesofpolymerobservedbyPOMrevealedastrongbirefringenceinthemelts,indicatingthatthenematicmesophaseswereformed.
