Heterocyclicaramidfiberisoneofhightemperatureresistantfibers.ThethermaldecompositionbehaviorsofthefiberininertgasesandairwerestudiedbyusingPyrolysis/GasChromatography-MassSpectrometry(Py/GC-MS)andThermalGravimetricAnalysis-DifferentialThermalAnalyzer/FourierTransformInfraredSpectroscopy(TGA-DTA/FTIR).Py/GC-MSwasusedtodetectinstantaneousthermalstabilityandvolatilefragments,andtheruptureprocessofmolecularchainwasrecorded.TGA-DTA/FTIRwasappliedtodetectthecontinuousheatingprocesses,andtheweightlossandvolatilesillustratingthechemicalreactionsduringthedecomposingofheterocyclicaramidfiber.Itwasfoundthatatthetemperatureof900°C,heterocyclicaramidfiberkepttheresiduesof60.8%ininertgasandalmostlostallmassinair,andoxidationhadgreateffectsonmassloss.Inbothinertgasandair,themainproductsofthermaldegradationwerethelowmolecularvolatilesandCO2wasofthelargestfraction.
