Toimprovetheinterfacialadhesionbetweenfibersandmatrix,silanecouplingagentwasappliedtothesurfacetreatmentofcarbonfiberswithdifferentconcentrations.Themechanicalinterfacialpropertiesofthecompositesampleswerecharacterizedbydifferentialscanningcalorimeter(DSC),scanningelectronmicroscope(SEM)andinterlaminarshearstrength(ILSS).Theresultsshowedthatthemechanicalinterfacialpropertiesofthecompositeswereimprovedinthecaseofsilane-treatedcompositescomparedwiththoseasreceivedandtheILSSwereimprovedby23%inamaximumvalueinthepresenceof0.8wt%.TheSEMresultsoffracturesurfacesofcompositesindicatedthatthecouplingagentplaysanimportantroleinimprovingtheadhesionatinterfacesbetweenthecarbonfibersandepoxy.
