Nanocompositeshavewideapplicationsasstructuralmedia,coatingsforelectricalorthermalmanagement,anddevicessuchassensorsandactuators.Toeffectivelyenhancethemechanicalandelectricalproperties,nanomaterialsfillerssuchasgrapheneareusuallydispersedinpolymermatrixuniformlywithappropriateconcentrations.However,ahugechallengestillliesinthedevelopmentofhighperformancegraphenebasedpolymercompositesbecauseoftheagglomerationtendencyofgraphenesheetsandhighcontactresistancebetweengraphenesheetsinthematrix.Recently,aporousgraphenespongewhosestructureisbasedonathree-dimensional(3D)interconnectedgraphenesheetsnetworkisreportedforoilororganicsolventsabsorptioncl].Suchporousgraphene-sponges(GS)areverysuitableforpolymerinfusionandcompositefabricate.Theconstructionof3Dinterconnectedgraphenenetworkcannotonlymakegraphenesheetsbeuniformlydistributedinthepolymermatrix,butalsosignificantlyreducethecontactresistancebetweenthegraphenesheets.Inthisstudy,GOwasfirstlysynthesizedfromgraphitepowderbythemodifiedHummersmethod.ThegraphenespongeswerefabricatedbyhydrothermaltreatmentofGOsuspensionswiththeassistanceofHI.Then,vacuumfreeze-dryingwasusedtoremovewaterandobtaingraphenesponges.Finally,GS/epoxycompositeswerepreparedbydirectlyinfusionofepoxyintothegraphenesponge.TheobtainedGS/epoxynanocompositesshowveryhighelectricalconductivityandthermalconductivity.ThehighelectricalandthermalconductivityofGS/epoxynanocompositesiscloselyrelatedwiththecompactcontactbetweengraphenesheetsinthespongestructuresandhighreductionlevelofgraphenesheets.Inaddition,comparingwiththepureepoxy,themechanicalpropertiesoftheGS/epoxyarealsogreatlyimproved.Importantly,themethodtofabricategraphenesponge/epoxyisfacile,low-cost,andscalable,providingauniversalroutefortherationaldesignandengineeringofhighperformancepolymercomposites.
