Theservicelifeofelastomercomponentsisdeterminedlargelybyagingprocesses.Overthecourseoftimemechanical-dynamic(fatigue),oxidationprocesses,temperature,expositiontoUVlight(photooxidation)andtoaggressivemedialeadtoirreversiblechangesinthephysicalandchemicalpropertiesofanelastomermaterial,oftenresultinginprematurefunctionalfailureofthecomponentconcerned.Alreadyinthemixingandvulcanizationprocessduringmanufactureaswellasinasubsequenttemperingoperation(postcuring),thematerialundergoesthermo-oxidationstress,resultinginacertainpriordeterioration.Alongsidetheselectionofpolymers,theagingprocessisdeterminedmainlybytheuseofanti-agingagents–e.g.p-phenylenediaminesorbysubstitutedphenols[3,5-8].Theinfluenceofcrosslinkingandoffillersonthermal-oxidativeaginghasscarcelybeeninvestigated.Thispaperfocusesspecificallyonthefollowing:temperaturedependencyandkineticaspectsofthermal-oxidativeaginginfluenceofacceleratorsfromsulfurcrosslinkinginfluenceofperoxidecrosslinking,withvariationoftheperoxidesandatemperingprocess–effectoffillers.
