Thedeformationandfracturebehaviourofviscoelasticmaterialssuchasthermoplasticpolymersandelastomersisstronglyinfluencedbythedurationoftheloadingaswellasthetemperature.Reasonistheirinfluenceonthemolecularmobilityandtransformationprocesseswhichinturndeterminetherelaxationand/orretardationspectrum.Accordingtothetheory,timeandtemperaturehaveanidenticalinfluenceontheviscoelasticmaterialbehaviourusuallycharacterizedbythedynamicmodulus.Anextensionofthetesttimehasthesameeffectastheincreaseofthetemperature.Thisphenomenonisknownasthetime-temperaturesuperpositionprinciple.AquantitativedescriptionofthisbehaviourispossiblebyusingtheWilliams-Landel-Ferryand/ortheArrheniusequation
