Potassiumnibotates(KNbO3)withdifferentmorphologiesweresuccessfullypreparedviaahydrothermalmethodusingKOHandNb2O5asstartingmaterials.X-raydiffraction(XRD),fourier-transforminfrared(FTIR)spectraandscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM)wereusedtocharacterizetheas-preparedsamples.ThesynthesisconditionssuchascrystallizationtemperatureandtimeaswellasKOHconcentrationwereinvestigated.Theresultsdemonstratedthatthecrystallizationandmorphologyoftheas-preparedsamplesstronglydependedonthereactivetemperatureandthestartingcomposition.WhentheKOHconcentrationis10M,themolarratioofK:Nbis200:1,thereactivetemperatureis150oC,rodKNbO3crystalswereobtained.DecreasingmolarratioofK:Nbto36:1underotherwiseidenticalreactiveconditionsleadstotheformationofrodandsomesheetcrystals.WhenthemolarratioofK:Nbwas100:1,increasedthereactivetemperatureto180oC,rod-likeKNbO3crystalsdisappearedandthesheetKNbO3crystalwaspresented.Whendecreasingthereactivetemperatureto120oC,tapercrystalsappearedandthefiberKNbO3crystalscouldbeseenwhenthemolarratioofK:Nbis54:1.
